When you visit our office for your check-up, we may suggest dental x-rays. Why? Because x-rays give the dental hygienist and your dentist at Westermeier-Martin Dental Care a view of your teeth, bones and the soft tissues in your mouth. This view shows cavities, hidden dental issues (including wisdom teeth) or bone loss because of missing teeth that can’t be seen during a visual examination. Your dentist may also request x-rays as a follow up to completed dental treatments.
There are several types of dental x-rays that may be done while you’re at our East Aurora office and they include:
When you have your initial dental visit we typically recommend a full mouth series of x-rays as a way to give your dentist has a complete picture of your mouth and your teeth. During subsequent visits you will may have bitewing x-rays completed as a way to detect tooth decay and cavities. Your dentist or dental hygienist may recommend x-rays at various times based on your age, your risk for disease, your overall health and to rule out signs of disease.
Your dental health is important to us and if you have any questions about the type of x-ray we are recommending and its purpose, please ask us. We want you to be as informed and involved as possible in your dental treatments.
