We know that no matter what procedure our patients request, it is a personal decision. Our objective, when we see a patient, is to listen to what they’re hoping for with their dental procedures and what outcome they are seeking. Some of our patients know they want dental implants while others come to us because they’re seeking a whiter, brighter smile and that can be accomplished by an in-office tooth whitening procedure. You may be wondering, “Is tooth whitening right for you?”
There are different types of tooth whitening options available. We explain them here so you are prepared with your options before you contact our office. Once you come in for your initial visit and to prepare a treatment plan we will further explain the procedures and help you decide which option might be best for you.
When you call our office to discuss tooth whitening we will want to know the date of your most recent dental check up or tooth cleaning. The reason for this is you want your teeth to be clean before you whiten them. We liken it to “you wouldn’t wax a dirty car” and you don’t want to whiten teeth that have tartar build up. If you haven’t had your teeth cleaned, you could potentially schedule an appointment with our office to not only get your teeth cleaned, but to have a tooth whitening procedure; you’d be sitting in the chair for up to three hours, but it is something our dental staff can accommodate.
Our in office procedure is called Zoom! Whitening System. This is a two-hour in-office appointment during which a special bleaching gel is applied to your teeth. The bleach is activated by a specialized light that whitens and brightens your smile in one appointment. If you choose the Zoom! Whitening option you will leave your appointment with an in-home whitening kit that you use for two weeks for touch-ups. You may have heard of this whitening system being called “laser whitening.”
Our dental team can provide you with custom take-home whitening trays. Many of our patients prefer the convenience and privacy of whitening their teeth in their homes. Coming to our office and having trays custom-molded to fit snugly over your teeth is the best way to achieve a whiter, brighter smile. When you leave the office you will receive detailed instructions on how to use the whitening gel. We pride ourselves on using only clear medical grade plastic for the whitening trays. Note that with take-home whitening your teeth will whiten over time – you may not notice immediate results.
Stubborn stains and tooth discoloration may mean that the KöR Whitening System would be advised by our dental staff. Deep-seated stains like those a patient might have from tetracycline treatments might need a deeper cleaning than the Zoom! or take-home whitening offers. The KöR Whitening System deep bleaching product that offers our patients incredible results. Even though patients who have utilized other whitening treatments with little to no success typically see results with the KöR Whitening System.
